NV Giovanni Sordo Spumante Brut Rosé Metodo Classico

$78.00

It’s not every day you see sparkling Nebbiolo?! But it is becoming a thing. This variety with its complexity and savoury finish, almost surprisingly lends itself to Champagne work.

The wine is made using the traditional method, with the first fermentation taking place at a controlled temperature in steel tanks. Following this initial fermentation, the wine is left on lees for over 24 months.

The aromas are fine, intense, and elegant, evoking a bouquet of fresh flowers, yeasty notes, and sweet spices. This wine is grippy, rich, and lively character, with savoury tones on the palate.

‘I’ve always been a huge fan of the Sordo wines since being introduced to them a few years ago. This Spumante Brut Rose is a welcome addition to the list in my head titled ‘Italian sparkling wines that I should drink the next time I want to be seriously impressed’ (or something like that). It screams freshness and vibrancy – delicate pink fruits, spiced ginger, pomegranate and freshly baked muffins with strawberry compote. The palate is lively but has a lovely core of savoury complexity that indicates this would be an exceptional food match. Think vitello tonnato, or a simple platter of fennel taralli and hard salty cheese.’ - Emma Farrelly, Wine Pilot
